Through the codeHive model, we intentionally embed design thinking into the curriculum, guiding students through a full cycle of problem-solving, from ideation to implementation.

Rather than traditional classroom instruction, codeHive uses a hands-on, human-centered design approach that fosters creativity, critical thinking, and practical problem-solving. Students graduate not just as coders, but as confident problem-solvers and innovators.

codeHive’s innovation lies in embedding human-centered design and design thinking throughout the program. Students don’t just write code; they start by identifying real, community challenges and create tech solutions grounded in local context. This approach nurtures creativity by pushing students to understand users deeply and iterate solutions with real feedback.

Real World Community Driven Projects

Every student works on real-world projects with direct community impact, transforming their learning into tangible change. Unlike simulated exercises, these projects result in real products used by real users, preparing students to be problem solvers who understand the social and economic implications of technology.

Minimum Requirements

To be eligible for codeHive program, the applicants must meet the following mandatory requirements:

   Age: 19–22 years old.

   Education: Must have completed high school education no later than December 2025 and attained the required grades in English, Maths, and/or Physics.

   Language: Must be fluent in English.

   Location: Open to citizens of Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Ethiopia, Malawi, Tanzania, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Eswatini, South Africa and refugee communities.

   Endorsement: You will need one recommendation letter from a credible person or organization. (not a family member).

   Commitment: You must be able to live and study at our campus full-time for the program duration.

   Grade eligibility: Applicants to the codeHive program must meet the following minimum academic qualifications and requirements:

The application process consists of three stages. To advance to the next stage, each preceding stage must be successfully completed.
