It’s almost time for the next AkiraChix training program class to begin. Much like the last time, we reached out to people who had helped us out before, such as Consolata Shrine, Community organizations in Kibera and Kawangware, amongst others, to help us find passionate young ladies who are unable to pursue further education due to social economic constraints.
We received more than 60 applications from across the country, and are in the process of narrowing that down to about 30 students who will join our class, which is set to begin in the next few weeks.
This past week, we’ve conducted about 40 interviews, with ladies coming from places as far as Mombasa (yes, that’s how determined these girls are about being the next generation of women in tech). What are some of the main characteristics we’re looking for in these girls?
- Successful completion of high school
- Knowledge and passion for technology
- Determination to succeed in life
- Demonstration of inability to sufficiently finance their education
Interviews are set to end on Saturday, the 7th of September, giving us time to vet the applicants, as well as do home visits as the final step of our selection process.
Lest we forget, we’ve got space O/!!
We’ve recently acquired an office space from which we will be conducting the class for the next few years **insert excited squeal**. The new AkiraChix class will be conducted from the ground floor of Bishop Magua Building. We’re grateful to the *iHub team for all the help they gave us in securing the space. To the team at SODNET, we are eternally grateful for your support over the past few years. Rock on!
Stay tuned for more updates and Wish us luck :)!
